Today was a happy and sad day. Sad because of Yom Hazikaron, and happy because it’s the evening of Israeli independance day. We started off the day by having a delicious buffet style breakfast in Kibbutz Farod. We finished packing and loaded up Marwaan’s (our bus driver) bus. After packing up the bus, we drove all the way to Latrun. At Latrun we took part in a Yom Hazikaron ceremony that touched us very much because of the sheer overwhelmingness of the people participating. After this ceremony, we had a tour that was very educational and interesting. We learned many new things we did not know about the Israeli army and it’s tanks, including a model of a tank cut in half, and how the Merkava Mk 3 protects it’s driver using the engine at a 25 degree angle. We also (Ms. Sherman we would never forget about you), took pictures on the world renown Sherman tank. On top of this, we got to see the actual tank that was stolen from the Nazi’s by the British during WWII, and was just painted over to look like a British tank. We later drove to Macabim to settle into our hotel. As we are writing this, we are driving to Shira’s house to have an Israeli independence transition party. We are hoping to have a great time in Shira’s house celebrating one of Israel’s many holidays.
