Yesterday we gathered at Har Vagai school in the morning before heading off to an adventure park of sorts with our Israeli pen pals in tow. The students spent the morning completing a high ropes course and zip lining into the Jordan river before we boarded a bus for a short ride upriver to raft down the Banias River until it merged with the Dan to become the Jordan. The water was relatively warm and slow moving by Canadian standards but there were some rapids and lots of over hanging vegetation. Students splashed each other and were in turn splashed by local children playing in the water as we floated by. The students, having built up an appetite from the day, dined on pizza for a late lunch before being bused back to Har Vagai and splitting up to accompany their pen pals home.
Today students again congregated at Har Vagai before being bused Agamon Hula for a bike ride and ecological tour of the remaining wetlands of what was once a huge marsh. We saw cranes and catfish and strangely North American Muskrat among other invasive and native species. The tour was about eight kilometres and took us about an hour and half
We then headed to Tel-Hai College to witness a demonstration and participate in an experiment about luminescence. Following that our students visited Hagome elementary school to visit our grade 5 "friends across the sea" pen pals before we headed back to Har Vagai and split up again for the evening. All in all a busy and hot couple of days in the beautiful Hula Valley.
