I woke up this morning to the sound of swaying trees and chirping birds, which is the great thing about staying in a Kibbutz. After breakfast we gathered up to tour Kibbutz Farod, one of the more historic Kibbutzim. We first went to have a discussion in the heart of the Kibbutz. We discussed how people in the early 1900's moved here due to all the Pogroms. We viewed the old fashion farm equipment placed around the area we were sitting. We discussed what kind of structures and buildings were needed in order to keep a smooth running kibbutznik society of that time. We than began our tour of the Kibbutz and were amazed at all the left over farm equipment from the early times, which Jonas helped educate us on. We then stopped at a very popular place here, the oil, Chalvah, and soap shop, all made here in Farod. Most of us bought Chalvah for our parents, and mainly for our dads, because all Dads like it. We got to sample a lot of the things they produce their which gave us a real good understanding of how good it actually is. On the way to that shop while walking on the sidewalk beside a small forest a donkey trotted out of the forest and followed me for a bit on the sidewalk, which was definitely a new experience. Then we had lunch and some free time before we went to the classroom and had a interesting discussion on our Canadian and Jewish culture represented by lemonade. We each made our own lemonade, the sugar being your Canadian identity, the lemon your Jewish identity, and the water as being a person on earth. Each person had a very different perspective on how they chose to make their lemonade. Tonight we are doing havdallah and then are being driven by the best driver, Marwan, to Rosh Pina for dinner and shopping.
